Basic Calligraphy Workshop
by Type Kita Academy feat. La Bella Scrittura
Last July, I enrolled for a workshop by Type Kita. It's a workshop for basic calligraphy.
Calligraphy (from Ancient Greek: κάλλος kallos "beauty" and γραφή graphẽ "writing") is a visual art related to writing. It is the design and execution of lettering with a broad tip instrument or brush in one stroke (as opposed to built up lettering, in which the letters are drawn).[1]:17 A contemporary calligraphic practice can be defined as, "the art of giving form to signs in an expressive, harmonious, and skillful manner".
I have been following instagram accounts on calligraphy and was truly amazed by their artwork. Then I stumbled on Type Kita's instagram and saw this. From then on, I'm IN!
The Basic Calligraphy Workshop was held at Commune Cafe in Makati. One of the cosiest place in the city. I've been working for 3 years in Makati and it's my first time to be here... really nice!
Well, I went in late but I'm lucky since they were not yet starting with drills and all. This workshop was headed by La Bell Scrittura, a group of gorgeous and talented ladies who were brought together by the same passion in Calligraphy.

Here's my favorite instructor Gail (@the_md_writes). Her hand is simply magical. I follow her on instagram and I'm was awestruck by her amazing talent! She writes calligraphy like a PRO! It's so well, she makes it look really really really easy!
And she's super friendly, by the way. She really taught us well.
So here are samples of my drills.. Oh my they're terrible. But once you get the hang of it, you'll definitely enjoy!

Here are our final work. They gave away free classic nibs to those who have great works. Mine needs a bit of practice... I know. But I am glad I took this workshop. Stress-free weekend for me! ;)
